Importance of Arfah Day

Importance of Arfah Day

The Day of Arafah is an official holiday in almost all the Muslim countries of the world that falls on the ninth day of Zil Hajj of the as per the lunar Islamic calendar. It is the second day of the pilgrimage journey it is celebrated one day before Eid ul Adha which is one of the major religious occasions of the Muslims. At dawn of this day, Muslim pilgrims start moving from mina to a closely located plain and hillside which is frequently referred to as plain of Arafah and also, mount of Arafa. This is the place where Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.) delivered one of his extremely famous speeches which is highly famous as the last major lecture of the Messenger of Allah. During the speech, Prophet Mohammed declared that Islam is now completed and from that day onwards,

About the Location

Mount of Arafah is situated in the southeast of Mecca. It is 20 kilometers or 12 miles away from Mecca in the famous plain of Arafah. The height of mount Arafah is 30 meters or 230 feet. It I also referred to as Mountain of Mercy. This hill is the place where our beloved Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.) stood and delivered the farewell sermon to all those Muslims who was accompanying him during the Hajj in the time near to the end of his life.

Activities Performed on Arafah Day

On the day of Arafah, before noon, the pilgrims reach Arafa. It is a barren plain which is situated around 20 kilometers away from Mecca towards east. Upon reaching Arafa, pilgrims stand and do several precious deeds such as requesting whatever they want from Almighty Allah, ask forgiveness for their past sins and repent from various sins they have committed in the past, beg mercy from the God and listen to the speeches delivered by Muslim scholars from the places near the Mount Arafah. All this lasts from the noon till sunset, it is called "standing before the God" and it is considered to be one the most important part of Hajj. The pilgrims offer the two prayers of Zuhur and Asr at the same time at Namrah mosque.

Compulsion during Hajj

It is a compulsion to spend an afternoon at Arafa for every pilgrim. If a pilgrim doesn't spend an afternoon at this place, then his or her Hajj will not be accepted. This part is obligatory for each and every pilgrim. However, it is said that those people who are physically disabled and are unable to perform this part of Hajj can observe this task by fasting. This act of fasting is not observed by those people who physically go for the visit of Arafat. Fasting on this day has extremely big rewards. It is said that if a person fast on the 9th of Zil Hajj, all his or her sins of the previous year and coming year are forgiven by Almighty Allah and 9th of Zil Hajj is also called prayer day especially for people who stand at the mount of Arafah.
